Are you depressed?

Everyone feels sad or down at times, especially after experiencing a loss or disappointment. However, these feelings of sadness are usually short-lived.

Depression, on the other hand, is a medical condition characterized by long-lasting feelings of intense sadness and hopelessness associated with additional mental and physical changes. Depression can affect a person's social, professional, and personal life.

About 1 in 5 women and 1 in 10 men will suffer from depression at some point in life. Depression affects children and adolescents less often than adults. Almost 1.5 million Canadians have serious depression at any given time, but less than one-third of them seek medical help.

This assessment is designed to help you see if you might have depression and whether you might benefit from talking to your doctor about how you feel.
